Hey boss, today is the day. I’m so excited! The last couple of months have been a true uphill battle in the sense that we haven’t had a permanent home, we’ve been making sets pretty much wherever we can, but today I’m going to show you start to finish how to stand out and create a set on YouTube that is truly unique to you, because that’s what we’ve been working on. By the end of the video you’re going to see the brand spanking new set.
Oh, but not now. Now we’re starting from a completely blank canvas, but don’t let that overwhelm you, because when you’re trying to create a unique YouTube set that states your vibe and attracts your ideal tribe, there are three P’s to keep in mind to keep the process simple and fun.
#1 – PLACE
The first P is place, and need I remind you that I started on YouTube in my living room in front of a window and had no set at all, and that took me up to 50,000 subscribers and three million views.
But you know what? There were still pieces in my living room that were very me, and it attracted the right audience for me. So, as long as there’s something in there that’s unique to you, you can start simple and start with that. We’ve had a lot of different sets over the years but this, hopefully, will be the forever home for us for a while, so we want to make it very… “sunnified”.
#2 – PINTEREST
The second P is Pinterest, which I am certainly not the expert at, so I call in my right hand woman, creative genius, technical genius – Ayla.
So, Ayla – what are the two steps for using Pinterest to create a unique YouTube set?
Ayla: This is super easy, don’t get overwhelmed. First and foremost you’ve got to feel your vibe. You’ve got to pick a few adjectives, so for yourself, or if you’re doing this for someone else, I do it for Sunny, so I think of a few adjectives that really represent who she is to me.
For this instance, for creating this set, I thought of powerful, I thought of rustic, and then obviously put in office space because that’s what we’re creating. A whole bunch of images come up, and then I just go and pick my favorites and create a board.
From there, you also want to think of your branding color, so ensure that there’s gold in there, or white, black for us. Then find things that really represent your space. It’s real super simple. Then go buy the things, or outsource them, or find them around your house. It’s super, super easy and that’s what I do.
#3 – PERSONALITY
Sunny: And the final piece of the puzzle and the final P is personality.
So, you want to pick things that make you you and things that make me me, and obviously the first thing I need to have is something that’s on brand. So, let’s do this.
Basically, just start writing a list of things that make you you, symbols, places, people, books, candles, and a few vibes here and there. We brainstormed and all of these things started popping up in the set and on the set and started to really look like my own set and my own unique vibe.
The only thing left is the wall behind me, which really is the key to finding pieces of my personality.
If you don’t know, a big part of who I am is I am half Italian and half Canadian, and I’m a huge hip hop fan (have been since I was a kid).
I also happen to be a former ballerina. I practiced dance for about 10 years. Yup, that’s actually me up there.
I can’t forget the fact that my spirit animal is a lion, and I just really love this picture.
The next thing is very symbolic for me. The journey that I’ve gone on to be my own boss and two of the things that have really played a factor in that.
There’s two main quotes that I live by, one is an Oprah quote. Love Oprah, you know that. It’s, “Think like a queen. A queen is not afraid to fail. Failure is the stepping stone on the way to greatness.”
Then a Maya Angelou quote that says, “Your crown has been bought and paid for, put it on your head and wear it.” Which says for me that you’re worthy of the greatness that you want in your life, and you just got to go after it.
The last thing is a clock, which for me symbolizes patience, which I don’t have much of, but I’ve learned that it really is a virtue and you need it if you really want to build something that’s going to stand the test of time and create a true legacy, and it looks cute.
And there you have it. We have a home!
This has been such a fun process to put this new set and new home together, and if you want to do the same thing and if you’re ready to shift things up and create a set that you really, really feel like is unique to you and helps you stand out, just remember those three P’s.
